1000 years in Japan’s future.
The laughter of innocent children rings out in the lush natural beauty enveloping the town of Kamisu 66.
A sacred barrier keeping out all impurities,
A peace attained by humans who have gained the “power of the gods,”
The children burn with a passion and ambition for perfecting their telekinesis skills…that is, until they begin to uncover the secrets of the past age of humanity.
 第29回日本SF大賞受賞作品 変わり果てた未来社会。「呪力」こと、念動力を獲得した子供たちは、野心と希望に燃えていた。それは自らが背負う闇に、全く無知であるが故の自由であった。
Winner of the 29th Japan’s Science Fiction Literature Award
In this future society entirely different from our own, children who have gained “magicks,” the powers of telekinesis, burn with passion and ambition. But they only know freedom through ignorance, unaware of the darkness they drag behind them.

then I got bored and didn’t fill like adding in the rest of the books that looked interesting because… I gots stuffs to do, people! I have a life, I can’t be on the internet all day pffffff… But Shinsekai Yori is super awesome, so I’m glad to have translated that synopsis at least \(^o^)/

I’m not drinking water…

日記 H.24/6/23

And now for a small rant…

PEOPLE Y U THINK EVERYONE IS COPYING LADY GAGA!!!!!

In the words of some YouTuber whose username I can’t recall, “Lady Gaga didn’t invent weird.”

I’m tired of comments on visual kei videos always including some “Lady Gaga copy” comment orz… Really? Visual kei is about as old as Lady Gaga herself. These visual kei people aren’t copying Lady Gaga. Not to say none of them are influenced by her, but honestly, most of what’s out there now has been influenced by previous visual kei artists. It’s the same thing with K-pop (which they said was a Lady Gaga copy in that Kids React video). Not every weird looking Asian music video is a Lady Gaga copy orz … They have their own pop culture, and while they may enjoy ours too, that doesn’t mean everything they do is a regurgitation of us. (Though some of it may be, I’ll admit ^^; … just not everything. I’m just tired of weird things always being compared to Lady Gaga. SHE DIDN’T INVENT “WEIRD,” PEOPLE! IT EXISTED LONG BEFORE HER! … that’s really all I wanted to say here)

Actually, smiling is somewhat of a learned trait, and in Korea (though it may be changing due to westernization, I’ve only seen old people do this in shows - but I have seen it!) people smile when they’re angry o-o … Then there’s the fact that in many European countries (according to a certain Irish blogger) people really only smile when they’re actually, you know, happy. As opposed to America (or Japan, I think they actually smile more over there) where people smile all the time for no reason except to seem “amiable.” That’s considered weird to some people. So… smiles do change depending on culture… just saying…

I try to comment on the quote…

and it doesn’t let me do it properly…

I feel so constrained orz…

T^T …

(Not really a quote, just my comment:) o-o …….. personally, I always took this the opposite way; I never understood why men were even allowed to go without shirts ^^; …. But biologically, woman’s boobs actually do have a function when it comes to making babies (or at least they function in the afterwards feeding stage) so they ARE different from a man’s chest. Men don’t do anything with theirs. So bring it down to that level and honestly there IS a difference. But, you know… I’m for the “everone should just be covered anyways it’s not that hard to put on a shirt”派 (← had to throw in Japanese there xD) o-o shirtless men make me feel awkward and embarrassed…
~~~~~~~~ Real Quote Following ~~~~~~~~
[TW: cissexist language] Female toplessness is legal in a lot of places in the US (although not where I live), and I’d be meeting the letter of the law with a couple of Band-aids. But I have a gut feeling that if I go anywhere that there are people—and particularly anywhere there are children—nobody’s going to be too happy about my Band-aids. The enforcement is social; women just don’t go around topless in the US. It bothers me because it’s unequal, but it also bothers me in its implications: that my body is inherently sexual, and a man’s body isn’t. It feels like men are being viewed through the first-person lens of “it’s nice to feel the sun on my skin, and I don’t mean anything by it” and women are being viewed through the distinctly third-person lens of “it’s inappropriate for me, a heterosexual man, to see her sexy parts.” It ignores the experiences of people who are turned on by male chests and somehow manage to contain themselves when they see one.
